Umer Piracha (@umerpiracha) is a New York–based Sufi vocalist and sound artist working at the intersection of devotional music, contemplative listening, and contemporary performance. Raised in the Sufi city of Multan, Pakistan, and apprenticing within the 700-year Qawwali lineage of the Saami Brothers, his work brings South Asian devotional traditions into dialogue with experimental sound, improvisation, and communal forms of listening.
His performances and collaborations span institutions including Harvard Divinity School, Grace Cathedral, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and his work has been featured on NPR. Through projects such as Resonance of Grace, he creates immersive sound environments rooted in sacred music, grief, attention, and spiritual presence.
He also leads Falsa (@falsamusic), a transcultural ensemble blending Sufi vocal traditions with global improvisation, jazz, and contemporary sonic practice.
